{"id":964,"date":"2014-11-21T16:00:16","date_gmt":"2014-11-21T16:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/duncanmcneil.com\/wordpress\/?p=964"},"modified":"2014-12-10T16:27:38","modified_gmt":"2014-12-10T16:27:38","slug":"mcneil-backs-bill-to-reform-fatal-accident-inquiry-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/duncanmcneil.com\/wordpress\/?p=964","title":{"rendered":"McNeil backs Bill to reform fatal accident inquiry system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">21st November 2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>MCNEIL BACKS BILL TO REFORM FATAL ACCIDENT INQUIRY SYSTEM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Local MSP Duncan McNeil has signed up to a Bill which aims to radically overhaul Scotland\u2019s controversial FAI system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Inquiries into Deaths (Scotland) Bill aims to create a system for investigating sudden and accidental deaths which is fit for purpose; allowing for a thorough investigation; and subsequently allowing for lessons to be learned from the death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Duncan McNeil <strong>said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI firmly believe that the time has come for a root and branch reform of the current system<em>.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMost importantly the Bill aims to put the families of the deceased at the heart of the process which is one of the most common criticisms of the current system for investigating fatal accidents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe experience of the families who tragically lost their loved ones in the Flying Phantom Disaster shows why we need a radical overhaul of the FAI system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis Bill will give families of the bereaved a voice and the chance to get to the full truth of what went wrong.
