McNeil Comments on Fullarton Redundancy Announcement

Commenting on the announcement by Fullarton Computer Industries (Gourock) Ltd. of redundancies at their Inverclyde plant, MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

"I am obviously deeply concerned at the effects of this announcement for the Fullarton workers and their families, especially as it would seem to be in addition to the expected layoffs of temporary workers.

"However, the fact that the redundancies will not commence until February 2001 gives us 90 days to take action. It is now time for everyone with an interest in this situation to come together and work to reduce the impact of these redundancies.

"I will therefore be holding discussions with unions, management, representatives of the local authority and Enterprise Companies as a matter of urgency.

"I have this morning tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament to this effect and will be writing to Enterprise Minister, Wendy Alexander, in similar terms."
