McNeil Congratulates Local Projects on £300,000 Community Fund Boost
Two Greenock based projects will share nearly £300,000 in grants from the Community Fund, it was announced today.

Inverclyde Council on Disability receives £234,386 to provide a pilot Shopmobility initiative in Greenock. This will provide new shopping services for disabled people, the elderly, infirm and carers.

The Phoenix Health Project also receives £58,894 to develop upon a pilot service to help people in deprived areas cope with the high levels of stress they experience. They will offer a programme of counselling, information services and training to enable people to tackle and cope better with stresses, regain control of their lives and become more fully involved in their community.

MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, congratulated the projects on their successful bids, saying:

"Groups such as the Inverclyde Council on Disability and Phoenix Health Project are the foundation of a strong community and I am delighted that their bids have been successful.

"These are bold initiatives which can deliver real improvements to vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community.

"I congratulate these groups on their successful applications and the Community Fund’s Scotland Committee for realising the potential of these projects."

The three-year grant to the Inverclyde Council on Disability will fully fund the salaries of a new full-time Shopmobility Co-ordinator, a new full-time Administrative Worker, a new full-time Shopmobility Project Worker and a new part-time Cleaner. It will also fully fund associated recruitment costs, information production, training and travel for staff and volunteers and general running expenses.

The two year grant to the Phoenix Health Project will fund the salaries of an existing full time Project Development Worker and a new part time Administrative Worker, training for staff and volunteers and associated consumables.
