20th September 1999

£1/2 Million Lottery Cash Boost for Local Organisations.

Member of the Scottish Parliament for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, today congratulated the two latest local projects which have received money from the National Lottery Charities Board. Under the Community Involvement Programme, Branchton Community Centre Association, will receive £369,941 to help build a new Family Centre. The Poverty and Disadvantage Programme, will provide the Financial Fitness Resource Team in Greenock with £202,530 to expand its existing financial advice and welfare services.

These awards are in addition to the £22,256 which 7 projects in the constituency are receiving from the Lottery’s Awards for All scheme, as announced on the 14th September.

Commenting on the cash boost, Mr McNeil said:

"I have today written to the groups, congratulating them on their success, thanking them for the work they have done within the community and wishing them all the best for the future. These well-deserved grants are a welcome boost to local community groups, who are key players in the fight against social exclusion.

"I would urge any local group who may be eligible, to apply to Awards for All for a grant. It is a simple, easy process and could make a world of difference to your organisation."
