Cross Party Message to Health Bosses

MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, will be joined by MSPs from across the political spectrum on Friday when he takes the case for saving the Rankin Maternity Unit to Health Bosses at the IRH.

The local MSP will be accompanied by Liberal Democrat, Ross Finnie; Scottish Nationalist, Colin Campbell; and the Conservatives’ Annabel Goldie when he meets with senior management of the Argyll & Clyde Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, including Chief Executive, David Sillito and Chairman, George Gibb.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Mr McNeil said:

"I have studied the newly published Framework for Maternity Services in Scotland and it is my view that the Trust’s current proposals would undermine a number of that document’s key principles.

"The framework highlights the need for wide consumer and public consultation, the importance of equality of access, and the rights of women to choose how and where they give birth.

"The Trust managers must take into account the principles outlined in the Framework and judge their current proposals against them."
