Parliament Action over Flooding

Greenock and Inverclyde MSP, Duncan McNeil, is continuing to raise the issue of flooding in Inverclyde and is promoting a multi-agency approach as the only realistic opportunity to deliver a lasting solution.

Speaking today, Mr McNeil said:

"Flooding in Inverclyde is a long-term problem and needs a long-term solution.

"I am therefore tackling the situation on a number of fronts. I have contacted the Council and West of Scotland Water requesting that they meet and formulate a joint long-term action plan.

"I am also working to raise the issue in Parliament and have tabled 6 Parliamentary Questions on the issue. I have asked for reports on the impact of the floods on the area, particularly focussing on the cost to the council, the emergency services and local business.

"In addition, I have laid down a Parliamentary Motion, asking the parliament to note the blow which the floods dealt to the area. The motion also calls on the Parliament to recognise that it is a long-term problem and that the best way forward is to get the local council and West of Scotland Water working together in partnership.

Such a multi-agency approach offers the only realistic option for a lasting solution to this problem."
