McNeil Looks Forward to More Public Consultation on Maternity Services Review
Commenting on the open event to be held in Paisley this Friday regarding the on-going review of maternity services in the Argyll & Clyde Health Board area, MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:
"Having been involved in this issue for well over a year, I am well aware of the emotions and anxiety which it has generated.
"I have put local concerns to senior officials in the NHS Trust and the Health Board in the strongest possible terms. In addition, I have raised the matter in a parliamentary debate and in my column in the Telegraph.
"In reviewing any service provision, all relevant factors must be taken into account - including the views of local people. That is why, throughout my involvement in this matter, I have stressed the need for openness and transparency.
"While Fridays meeting is not perhaps in the ideal location for people in Greenock & Inverclyde, I believe that it is important to know what is being discussed. I will, therefore, be happy to attend.
"However, to allow as many local people as possible to express their views, I look forward to further such meetings and consultation exercises being held throughout the Health Board area in the near future."
