West Station Bridge on Target, Minister Confirms

Transport Minister, Sarah Boyack, confirmed today in a debate in the Scottish Parliament that there has been no change in the timetable for the replacement of the West Station Bridge.

She was responding to a question raised by MSP for Greenock & Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, during the debate on the Erskine Bridge. Asked whether the short suspension of tolls on the Erskine Bridge would affect the current investment programme and, in particular, the work on the West Station Bridge, the Minister replied that it would not. She also took the opportunity to underline the fact that no change to the timetable has been made.

The project is proceeding through its planning stage and work on site remains scheduled to begin towards the end of the year.

Speaking after the debate, Mr McNeil said:

"The latest speculation surrounding the West Station bridge has understandably concerned local businesses and residents – including me. I am therefore glad that the Minister has taken the opportunity to dismiss these unfounded rumours.

"There has been no change in the timetable, the work is still on target, and Greenock is still getting a new first-class railway bridge."
