The Regeneration of Cowal

Commenting on a Member’s Business debate which took place in the Scottish Parliament yesterday, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

"The Regeneration of the Cowal Peninsula relies greatly on maintaining and improving its linkage with the West of Scotland. Ferry access at Wemyss Bay and Gourock are very important not only for the amenities of supermarket shopping but more importantly access to jobs.

"Easy, affordable, regular quality access is necessary for the regeneration of Gourock as well as the Cowal area.

"The transport hub at Gourock needs to be maintained and improved to ensure ferry, rail and indeed air links are readily available.

"The transport and environment minister Sarah Boyack has assured me that a consultation document on options for the future of ferry services between Gourock and Dunoon will be made available to the public very soon. She further assured me that she and other ministerial colleagues will approach the consultation process with open minds and with no preconceptions."
