£4 million in voluntary redundancy payments

Figures released under freedom of information laws show that over £4 million pound in voluntary redundancy payments have been paid to staff at James Watt College since 2008.

A total of two hundred and thirty two staff accepted voluntary redundancy.

Local MSP Duncan McNeil said he will be meeting with with Audrey Cumberford the new prinipal of West of Scotland regional college to discuss the issue.

He also repeated his call for the Scottish Government to reverse its proposed £34 million cut to the college sector.

Duncan McNeil said:

"Finances at our local college are already close to the bone.  James Watt simply cannot afford another hit to its finances, or any more staff cuts. The SNP government must listen to the voices of students and staff and reverse its proposed £34 million cut."
