Progress on Cloch Road safety

Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil has welcomed new safety measures to curb the high accident rate on the Cloch Road.

The MSP had written to Inverclyde Council and local road police outlining concerns about the accident statistics on the A770, which show that there have been two fatalities and 14 serious accidents over the last 10 years.

Now he has received conformation that an electronic warning sign is to be placed on the road near to the bend at Underheugh Quarry.

The signage will illuminate when the driver is travelling at, or above, a specific speed on the approach to the bend.

Both the local authority and the police are to monitor the situation and have pledged to arrange for remedial work should it be required.

Mr McNeil said: “I welcome this engagement from the police and Inverclyde Council, as the Cloch Road has been a concern for some time.

“The accident rate is too high and hopefully this very clear warning will help make this stretch of road safer.

“Like the police and the council, I too will continue to monitor developments on this road to see if these steps make a difference.”
