Knife bid steps up

Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil has heaped praise on knife campaigner John Muir after the Inverclyde man put forard a powerful case for mandatory prison sentences to the Scottish Parlaiment's justice committee.

Mr Muir, who lost his son Damian to a knife criminal, faced up to MSPs of all parties to make a striong argument for a change in the law.

The Scottish Parlaiment will now vote on a Damian's Law amendment in June and Mr McNeil is rigth behind the campaign.

The MSP said: "John Muir's story is a powerful one which is all too familiar to hundreds of families all over Scotland.

"It is only right that his experiences were taken into account by the justice committee and I look forward now to the vote on mandatory sentences going to full parliament."
