McNeil Shoots Down Drugs Gallery Call
Condemning today’s report from an independent panel which calls for so-called “shooting galleries” – special rooms where heroin users could legally inject the drug – to be trialled in the UK, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

“Yet again, we see the focus of this debate on the drug users and what’s supposedly best for them, not on the harm they’re doing to their families and communities.

“This concentration on what’s in addicts’ best interests has led to the situation we’re in now – where more than 300 babies are born addicted to heroin and other illegal drugs every year.

“The more important question isn’t how we make taking drugs safer, it’s how we make taking drugs less prevalent.”
