McNeil
Welcomes Experts’ Call for Smoking Age Rise
MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan
McNeil, whose amendment to the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act
2005 gave Scottish Ministers the power to raise the minimum age for purchasing
tobacco, has welcomed today’s call from the Smoking Prevention Working Group
to raise the age from 16 to 18.
He said:
“I hope that Ministers heed
the advice of this expert group, move quickly to get the necessary regulations
before parliament and help stop our children making the worst mistake of their
lives.”
