Be a Good Neighbour this Winter – McNeil
MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, is urging his constituents to be good neighbours and look out for any elderly or vulnerable people in their street over the winter months.

And he says it’s always a good idea to know who to contact if things go wrong.

Speaking as he dropped in to visit Greenock pensioner Pat Arkley and his wife, Mr McNeil said it’s important for communities to ensure that vulnerable neighbours are coping with the winter conditions.

“The most important thing you can do this winter is to look out for your neighbours, particularly your vulnerable and elderly neighbours,” he said today.

“Keep an eye on whether they’re opening and closing their curtains; maybe drop in now and then to make sure they’re okay and to see if they need anything.”

He added:

“It’s also important that you know who to contact if you need help with, say, a medical problem, a power cut or flooding.  We also need to be aware of the facts about keeping warm while conserving energy.  It’s a good idea, then, to have these useful numbers to hand.”

Mr Arkley said:

“We always keep an eye out for our neighbours here, especially those who are elderly or infirm.  It’s particularly important at this time of year to look in on anyone who might not get regular visitors and make they’re okay.”
