Put Children’s Rights First, McNeil Tells Lib Dems
MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, has condemned the Liberal Democrats at Holyrood for blocking plans to raise the age at which youngsters can purchase tobacco from 16 to 18.

He said:

“Obviously the Lib Dems think the rights of cigarette companies to sell their products to children are more important than the rights of those children to be protected from tobacco.

“We know that the younger you start smoking, the harder it is to stop.  That’s why I fought for this change in the law - to stop children making the worst mistake of their lives.  I won’t see it sidelined by Liberal politics.

“They just don’t care.  Thankfully, there is a clear majority in favour of raising the smoking age in the country and, I believe, at Holyrood.  Let’s get the necessary Subordinate Legislation before parliament and give children in Scotland the protection they deserve.”
