Look Out for Each Other over Winter
MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, is urging his constituents to look out for their neighbours as Greenock and Inverclyde prepares for one of the coldest winters in years.

Met Office predictions for December to February forecast a two in three chance of a colder-than-average winter, which will be drier than previous years.  Indeed, it could be the coldest winter for a decade.

Highlighting the Scottish Executive’s winter advice campaign, which features online advice on a range of issues from how to stay warm to protecting your home from burst pipes and flooding, Mr McNeil said it is important to make sure that vulnerable neighbours who may be at risk from the cold weather, particularly the elderly, are coping with the conditions.

He said:

“The Scottish Executive’s winter advice campaign provides a raft of useful information about staying safe and healthy this winter.  It tells you what you need to know about health, transport and dealing with flooding, as well keeping warm while conserving energy.  And, if anything does go wrong, it will give you the phone numbers you’ll need.

“The simplest piece of advice for the winter, though, is to look out for your neighbours, especially vulnerable or elderly neighbours who may be unprepared for a cold snap.  Keep an eye on whether they’re opening and closing their curtains or perhaps call in to see if there’s anything they need.”
