Congratulations for Phoenix from MSP and Health Minister
Deputy Health Minister, Tom McCabe and MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, have congratulated the Phoenix Community Health Project for winning a GlaxoSmithKline Impact Award of £20,000. Phoenix Health Project, Tom McCabe and Duncan McNeil

Mr McNeil was so impressed when he learned of the group’s achievement that he informed the Health Minister, who was keen to meet with the group and congratulate them personally.

Representatives of the local health project therefore came the Scottish Parliament to meet Mr McNeil and Mr McCabe.  The Minister was very impressed with the group’s activities – in particular with the walking initiative.

Elspeth Gracey, Project Co-ordinator at Phoenix said:

“Duncan and the Minister were great.  They were genuinely so interested in what we had achieved and how we had managed to do it.  Tom McCabe took away a copy of the new ‘Inverwalks to Health’ booklet that we developed as he thought it went very well with the government-backed walking initiative, Paths to Health.”

Mr McNeil added:

“The Phoenix group are at the leading edge of improving health in our community.  These are exactly the type of innovative project the government hopes spreads throughout Scotland.”

A spokesperson from GlaxoSmithKline said:

“GlaxoSmithKline is delighted to support the outstanding work undertaken by the Phoenix Community Health Project.  This is just the kind of organisation that the Impact awards were designed to reward and it is tremendous that Duncan McNeil and Tom McCabe congratulated them for their excellent achievements which are making a dramatic difference to the health and welfare of the community.”
