Saving
of Inverclyde A&E, “early Christmas present” - McNeil
MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde,
“Duncan McNeil” has welcomed today’s announcement from NHS Greater Glasgow
and Clyde that Accident and Emergency services at Inverclyde Royal Hospital are
secure.
Inpatient
services such as trauma, orthopaedics and general surgery are also safe -
meaning that his constituents with breathing difficulties, or severe abdominal
pain will go the IRH and not to the RAH in Paisley.
Mr
McNeil said:
“There’s
no doubt it is great news for our community and an early Christmas present from
the Health Board.
“There
was a point a few years ago when we feared we would lose our hospital. The old Argyll & Clyde board seemed determined to condemn
it to death by a thousand cuts, move our acute services to Paisley and close our
A&E unit.
“But
today, after years of campaigning and making our case, we have won the ultimate
prize – a clear future for our hospital.”
