McNeil
Sets his Sights on 2007
Local labour MSP, Duncan McNeil, has
launched his bid to be re-selected to contest his Greenock and Inverclyde seat
at the 2007 Scottish Parliament elections.
Duncan, who has held the seat
for Labour since the establishment of the Scottish Parliament in 1999, is
campaigning for support from Labour Party members in the area and selection
meetings take place throughout the constituency next week.
Greenock and Inverclyde
Procedures Secretary, Christina Boyd, who is in responsible for the smooth
running of the selection process said:
“The four local Scottish
Parliamentary Forums will meet next week, beginning with members in the East of
Greenock on Sunday 11th September.
It’s one member one vote and all the Forum nominations are returned to
me. Unions also send me their
nomination papers and the final count will take place at a meeting of party
members on 23rd September.”
Duncan added:
“I hope the local party
Forums and union branches will endorse me as our candidate for 2007.
But I’m not taking anything for granted and have been campaigning hard
for their support. If re-selected,
I promise party members and the people of Greenock and Inverclyde that I will
continue to fight for the interests of our community in health, education and
economic regeneration.
“Serving
my community as the first ever Member of the Scottish Parliament has been a
great honour. Since being elected
in 1999, I have strived, whatever the issue, to ensure that the voice of
Inverclyde has been heard at the heart of government.
I want to continue this work and winning the party nomination for 2007 is
the first step.”
