Compensation
for Residents Left in the Dark
Residents in and around Antigua Street
and Regent Street who have been plagued by power-cuts are in line for
compensation, says MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil.
Mr McNeil is encouraging
residents who have been forced to endure cold winter days without heating and
hot water to contact his office and register their claim against Scottish Power.
He said:
“The service these
residents, many of them elderly, have received from Scottish Power has not been
good enough.
“It’s not just the
inconvenience. When the power goes
off overnight, for example, those with White Meter heating have no hot water and
a stone-cold house the next day.
“I have been making
representations to Scottish Power, who advise me that these interruptions are
down to an intermittent fault on a low voltage cable – possibly damaged at the
demolition site at Antigua Court.
“Scottish Power has
therefore assured me that fault locating equipment has now been fitted to the
circuit which should help pinpoint the location of the fault and allow a
permanent repair.
“In the meantime, though,
Scottish Power must honour its obligations to its customers, who are now owed
compensation for the loss of supply.
“To obtain this
compensation, an application needs to be made to Scottish Power. I would therefore advise my constituents in and around
Antigua Street and Regent Street who have been affected to contact my office
(791820) as soon as they can, so I can make representations to Scottish Power on
their behalf.”
