Damning Report “Lifts the Lid” on Unprecedented Level of Failure
Commenting on today’s publication by the Accounts Commission of its Best Value report on Inverclyde Council, MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Duncan McNeil, said:

“This report lifts the lid on managerial and political failure at Inverclyde Council on an unprecedented scale.

“The guilty parties need to get a grip and take immediate, comprehensive remedial action, or they need to get out and make way for people who’re up to the job.

“Finance and Public Service Reform Minister, Tom McCabe, is absolutely right to tell them their performance is ‘totally unacceptable’ - a message I hope he’ll be spelling out loud and clear when he comes here next week.”

Mr McNeil said it was important that the Council did not make those who rely on frontline services pay the price for the leadership’s incompetence.

“My experience is that it’s always frontline staff who pay the price for management failings.  And when frontline staff suffer, so do those who rely on the services they provide.  That cannot be allowed to happen here.

“In particular, the report warns that vital regeneration work is in jeopardy.  That would be unacceptable and I will continue to press for the creation of an Urban Regeneration Company as a matter of urgency.”
