Town centre boost for Greenock - now its Gourock's turn
Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil is delighted that Greenock is to receive £1.3 million to boost the town centre.
The Town Centre Regeneration Fund will be spent on creating better retail, business, community and leisure facilities and improving public access and transport links.
The MSP said: “This is great news for the town and I am sure this money will be spent well in breathing new life into the town.
“I would congratulate Inverclyde Council in putting together such a strong bid for this cash and winning much-needed funds for the area."
“I now look forward to the same level of commitment in bidding for Gourock to benefit from the second round of funding.”
Mr McNeil also pointed out that Gourock should gets its fair from the second round of funding.
The MSP is to meet with Gourock Community Council and Riverside Inverclyde chief executive Bill Nicol in the town next month to discuss the bid.
Other matters of interest on the agenda will include progress of the new train station and other Riverside Inverclyde developments in Greenock.
Duncan McNeil MSP said: “It is important that we make sure Gourock gets its fair share of this money
“This open meeting should make people aware what is being done and allows us to discuss what still needs to be done.
“So I am pleased that Bill Nicol is sparing some of his time to engage with the community about the plans for the area.”
Greenock is already lined up to receive more than £1.3 million from the town centre regeneration fund.
Mr McNeill will meet with the Gourock Community Council on September 21 at the Gamble Halls.
