Today, for the
first time, a prisoner at Barlinnie prison in Glasgow
will appear for a formal court hearing without the need to attend in person.

a joint project between the Scottish Court Service (SCS)
and the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) and follows
legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament as part of the Criminal
Justice (
It will be run as a
pilot for a period of six months but, if successful, the Court Service will
consult on the extension of the operation.
The cost of the link,
approximately £215,000, has been met jointly by the SCS
(40%) and the SPS (60%) from within current
programmed expenditure.
New
roundabout set for A78 junction
Work will start this month
on a new £1.4 million roundabout on the A78 junction at

the existing T-junction where the
The Executive has
appointed contractors ERDC to do the works, who are
expected to start on 20th October and be completed by the middle of next year.
The junction will be named the Bankfoot Roundabout.
Funding for the new
roundabout comes from the 2003-04 Transport Budget.
In August 2002 a Traffic
Assessment carried out found that the present junction was now near capacity
and needed to be addressed. A Transportation Assessment determined that a
roundabout would be the best option.
