At its last meeting the Committee
took evidence on the Budget process,
considered the Housing Grants

Education Committee
The Committee considered school transport guidelines issued to
local authorities and took evidence on the matter from the Scottish
Executive. It also heard from Education
Minister, Peter Peacock, on an Executive paper on school discipline. The Budget
was also discussed.
Environment and Rural Development Committee
The Committee had its
third session on waste last week. Members heard views from the business
community and the Business Environment Partnership on how to ensure businesses
get involved in minimising waste and managing resources. This week sees the last evidence taking
session and will enable members to the Minister about the Executive's National
Waste Plan.
Finance Committee
The Committee took
evidence on the National Health
Service reform (

Both Committees
had a joint meeting to take evidence on the Budget process.
