Communities Committee
The Committee continued taking evidence on the debt arrangement scheme last week, hearing from Citizen’s Advice Scotland, the Institute of Credit management and Money Advice Scotland.

Enterprise & Culture Committee
The Committee continued hearing evidence on the Scottish Solutions Inquiry.  Members heard from NUS Scotland, Edinburgh and St Andrew’s Student’s Associations and the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council.

Environment and Rural Development Committee 
As part of its consideration of the National Waste Plan, the Committee heard evidence from the waste Management industry; those involved in promoting new products to increase recycling and composting; and local and community groups involved in recycling and waste to energy.  It also took evidence on community experiences with landfill sites and agreed to take action in the light of petitions received from residents over Greengairs and Midlothian.

Equal Opportunities Committee
This week the Committee was looking into the Procedures Committee report on the founding principles of the Scottish Parliament and how they relate to mainstreaming of equality issues.  It also took evidence on civil partnerships.

European and External Relations Committee
Last week, the Committee discussed further its proposals for an ongoing review of the debate on the development of a new framework for regional development and the future of European structural funds. It agreed to launch a new, focused, call for views from bodies and individuals in
Scotland, the UK and elsewhere with an interest in this issue. Members agreed to hold a limited series of evidence taking sessions with ministers in the UK Government and the Scottish Executive, along with leading academics and representatives from local government and the European Commission.

The Committee also discussed proposals for civic participation events across Scotland and a short Inquiry on the impact of the draft EU constitutional treaty on Scotland.

Finance Committee
The Committee took a report on the financial memorandum of the Vulnerable Witnesses (Scotland) Bill.

Health Committee
The Committee considered various SSIs prior to taking evidence from the Minister on the budget.

Justice 2 Committee
Justice 2 has been taking evidence on the Vulnerable Witnesses Bill from the Law Society, the Faculty of Advocates and Scottish Women’s Aid.  It also considered a petition on the rights of individuals complaining to public bodies.

Standards Committee
The Committee agreed to approve the establishment of two new Cross-Party groups on Construction and on the Scottish Economy.  The Committee also continued its consideration of the complaint against Kenny MacAskill MSP and Tricia Marwick MSP.
