If you’re over 60 or
disabled, you’ll doubtless know that, from April, you will be able to go out
gallivanting the length and breadth of the country with your new nationwide bus
pass.
Under the Scottish Parliament
scheme, more than one million people will be entitled to travel anywhere in
Scotland whenever they want. Not
only will this let pensioners spread their wings and see a bit more of Scotland,
towns like Greenock and Gourock also stand to benefit.
With our breathtaking scenery, pleasant waterfront walks, plenty of good
value cafes and shops, and, of course, good bus links, we are well placed to
become a favourite day-trip destination for pensioners from across Scotland.
But, before you go dusting
off the guide books and plotting a chart of the nation’s best tea-rooms,
you’ll need to make sure you’ve applied for your new bus pass - known as the
National Entitlement Card.
Your current pass will only
be valid up until 31st March and, although a million people will be eligible,
just 400,000 pass-holders have applied for the new card.
Replacing it with the national card, though, is easy.
Strathclyde Passenger Transport is sending out application forms for the
new card to all its pass-holders. So,
to make sure you don’t miss out, get the form filled in and sent off as soon
as you receive it.
For more information on the
free bus travel scheme, call the national helpline on 0845 300 3490.
