Vote of Confidence
Before it flared up again last week, I
confess I’d forgotten all about the Conservative leadership race.
It
seems to have been going on longer than War
and Peace, albeit with less drama and fewer realistic characters.
The last I heard, they still hadn’t even agreed the rules under which
the election will be run - with MPs determined to strip grassroots members (who,
incidentally, campaigned to get them into Parliament in the first place) of
their vote.
Thankfully,
you and I don’t need to await the outcome of Tory Party grandees’
interminable ponderings to get a vote in more important elections.
So
long as you’re not a convict, royalty, or a minor, all you need to do to make
sure you can have your say in the Scottish Parliament, local council,
Westminster and European elections is fill in the voter registration form which
probably landed on your mat last week.
And
it couldn’t be easier. As someone
who has a passionate dislike of any form longer that a National Lottery
play-slip, I must congratulate the Valuation Joint Board for keeping the
document simple and, to be on the safe side, including crystal clear guidance
notes.
But,
if even a one page form is too much hassle, you can, provided your household’s
details don’t need updated, register by phone or online.
Your
vote is your right and your passport to a say on the issues that matter, so make
sure you’ve got one. There’s no
excuse.
